Vienna

Everywhere we went in Austria was amazing. And Vienna was no different! We found our hostel, The Wombats (best hostels in the world!!!!), and went to the big summer palace. The gardens were so beautiful and so vast, and also had a maze and labyrinth, which we played in. We spend a couple of hours exploring around the palace and then dawdled back to our hostel for free drinks and yummy food! The next day, much to Dad's utter horror, we took 2 1/2 hours to walk 1.1km! You may be shocked but it was the biggest shopping street in Vienna so I believe 2 1/2 hours is actually quite reasonable!

After having a nice lunch in the winter palace garden, we walked to Stephens Dome! In there we joined a tour of the scary katacomb underneath the church. It was the scarest thing we have done! Chambers made of thousands of human bones and skulls and pits filled with the skeletal remains of those people who had died of the black plague and had been chucked down a hole in Stephen's square. We were all scared out of our wits yet all extermely intrigued. It was cold, dark, damp and the smell of death hung in the air....dun dun dun!!!

It was so hot in Vienna, and when we collasped in a sweating, melting heap on the winter palaces garden again, it was strange to see locals in high-neck woollen jumpers and trackpants!! Um......?

We didn't leave Vienna till late, catching the overnight train to Berlin at 10.00pm. We were in first class too so recieved food, tea and coffee, bigger beds, private showers and toilets..the works! It was brilliant!
