Sorry we haven't posted for awhile, have been very very busy!! Rome was AMAZING!!! We all loved every minute off it and didn't want to leave! It is the opposite of Naples. So clean and inviting, Rome had a really awesome vibe about it and we all want to go back.
We arrived on the train very late but luckily out hostel, The Yellow, was 3 minutes away. When we got there, it turned out we hadn't read the fine print and this hostel was only for 18-40 year olds!!! We were at both ends of the scale! Thankfully, they said we could stay! it was a really nice hostel, and we would recommend it!
The next day we caught the metro to the Vatican. As it was a Wednesday, the Pope was in town. We joined a tour group and went to St Peters square. We watched the Pope come in on his pope-mobile, cheered on by the thousands of people and listened to him speak. We didn't stay for the whole mass as our tour group was going into the museum. And what a museum it is!!! 3492000 pieces of art and catholic history, it was mind blowing. Works by MichealAngelo, Raefel, and other famous artists. We walked round it for almost 3 hours, with a running commentary on headphones from our guide! Then we went into the Sistine Chapel. I actually can't describe it to you. Their aren't words to describe how beauitful, how breath-taking this chapel was! Every wall covered by the most magnificent artwork you'll ever see!
And the Bascilica was the same. As we walked in, I literally felt breath escape me. If our chucrh was like this then we all said we would go very single day! It was amazing, absolutely epic! Massively big too! We were shattered after this of course, and so what better way too finish the day than with the biggest ice-cream ever!! 3 scoops and cream!! So delicious!
The following day we went to the Colloseum. At this too we took a tour, which ment we dodged the horrendous queue. Most of the time we actually couldn't hear the guide due to his Italian accent and his too quiet speaker system but we were fine just looking round the huge complex! it was really spectatcular! Then we changed tour guide for the tour around the forum. There is actually no Forum left, beacause an earthquake destroyed it many years ago, but our guide was fantastic and he told us stories about the Romans. Did you know that the sayings 'wrong end of the stick' and 'trick up his sleeve' came from the Romans?
The Trevi Fountain was great and we chucked our coins in! We didn't get inside the Partheron, just looked at the outside but we ran out of time! Then, as we walked home, Dad spotted a hidden church. inside was a real Micheal Angelo work and we touched it!!!! That's something to put on your CV!
Rome was really fantastic and , as I mentioned before, we all want to come back! I also suggest, if you want to travel, you must go to Rome! Sorry this post was an essay, we are just doing so much!
Chow,
us xxxxxx
