Greece

We are posting this from Athens. Our impressions of Athens are there is lots of graffti ( and I´m talking every single wall, lamp post, pillar), lots of beggars and poeple, cars and motorbikes! We haven´t been able to do much in the way of sight seeing because it is Mayday here, which means all the shops, muesums etc. are closed. Also on Mayday, its the protest day in Athens. Samantha throughly enjoyed watching the hundreds of thousands of people protesting about all different causes but she really wanted to see more conflict between the protesters and riot police, of which there were many!

We managed to see the Acropolis yesterday though which was fantastic. The views from the top of the city below were stunning and it was interesting to see the difference between the ruins in Turkey and the ruins here. In the Acropolis, there is a lot of reconstruction which is great. In Turkey, they just left the ruins.

Before coming to Athens though, we stayed one night on the island of Chios, a lovely relaxed island where we chilled on the beach, ate delicous kebabs and the best gourment ice creams and watched the royal wedding. We were ment to catch a overnight ferry to Athens at 10.00pm but it was 3 hours late! (and we didn´t have a cabin so we camped out in the corridor, what a experience!)

Off to Italy tomorrow, very exciting!
